Framing

Images from my studio space - framed pieces for sale ideas.

Mirrored piece - practicing with ideas for sale.

Framing for my projection piece:

This frame is slightly too large for the acetate pieces to be attached easily.
I am getting another slightly smaller frame cut to see if this will work better - either way these two acetate pieces are going to be attached to the frame as mirror-images of each other.
This will then be placed onto my OHP and used to project the imagery onto a wall in the exhibition space.
I am also going to mount acetate imagery onto the OHP itself to decorate it and make the piece seem more like part of the work itself - I don't want it to just be equipment, it is part of the art.

Space for projection

I went on another visit to the exhibition location to see where I might project my piece.
I went around and took some images of potential spaces:

Projection practice

I have been working on my OHP piece - the main focus of my work.
Despite my concerns - and lack of a clean white space! - the work really calmed me down in more ways than one.
I feel a lot more assured and comforted by the pieces I've done so far, I feel it is coming together quite well. It's just a case of assembling the acetate pieces suitable for display and to the best effect I can. Also the continuous process working on my art book - it too is getting there but it is a little delayed for I want the writing pieces to be perfect and the chosen images to work the most successfully together on double pages.

Here is an example of the work I did yesterday - bearing in mind that I had to project the images onto the door/wall of my space so a lot of the delicacy of the images is lost!

The Triumph Angel (Twin) is my favourite so far!

The Triumph Angel (Twin) on the OHP - I am desperate to get myself some light boxes for my next step in my practice, maybe if I come into some money!

Artwork I've been working on

Pieces I've done so far...some are designed for projection while some will be used in my small little book that will accompany the exhibition.

So ..plan for me :)

I want to create some projections (using acetate imagery and OHPs).
The OHPs are to be used as part of the piece itself, I am interested in them being involved as part of the work as they represent the idea of nostalgic materials/equipment, time passing and the inevitability of things ending/dying out to make way for newer things.
I am interested in doing the projections possibly in the courtyard, or a room with a large wall space so that the projections will show up large and clear.

I also have the idea of creating a small book of images and fragments of writings that I want to show in the museum space itself or possibly in the gallery, wherever it would be suitable.

I mentioned before about my take on the theme – I want to show what the concept of death means to me, looking at the essences left behind, the traces that form fragments of memory e.g. figures, hands, faces, reflections etc. But also the regenerative aspect, the renewal – much like the preservation of the museum itself and how the lives of the workers are remembered.

Link to some of my projection work:

I want to create projections that are layered but also are bright and clear.

Places for photography

I have been thinking of difference places I can visit that will be useful and aid the project theme.
I an going to explore the West Midlands for inspiration.

Set up

I am going to set up my OHPs this Friday, get them out and dust them down and get them sorted again. I want to test the focus too and see if I can get a sharp image.

I am going to prepare my OHPs so I can start creating some projections based on my new exhibition - looking at the concept of death. Death is a fascinating subject for me an I need to let myself work more freely with it, I am now excited to begin.

I might use some kind of sheet or shroud to project onto, depending on how clear the images will show up on the museum walls - however the fainter the images the more they might create an aspect of nostalgia and lost memory.
A projection screen is an idea, however I think that would make the image seem too 2D and the layered images seem to work better when the surface is more textured.

I am going to take a trip on Saturday to take some photographs to start off my layering photographs - also for some inspiration. I am going to plan out where would be the best place to go to take some nostalgic images, deathly themed aspects etc.
I am really excited!!!
